The summer before I started the M.A. in Social Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion. This decision stayed with me as we started navigating the human-centered design process and I knew I wanted to do something that could help people who were affected by this unjust ruling. This led to my thesis project on access to abortion.
How might we unite pro-abortion volunteers to
increase healthcare access in Western Maryland?
This project gave me the opportunity to combine printmaking and social design. I started printmaking in my senior year of undergrad and realized how versatile it could be. At MICA, I continued printmaking and started thinking about how I could turn this into a career. When I realized that the Baltimore Abortion Fund was looking for a way to gain new volunteers, I knew that I could combine my interests and create something special.
